Planting Urban Forests: How Corporate Sapling Drives Are Greening Bangalore

Bangalore was once celebrated as India's "Garden City." Restoring that legacy requires active community participation and corporate leadership. Tree plantation drives remain one of the most visible and effective CSR activities for companies committed to environmental sustainability. Through Sampige Foundation’s Native Sapling Plantation Drive, corporate teams step out of their office cubicles and plant native, weather-resilient trees across urban parks, school campuses, and community reserves in Bangalore. Why Native Species Matter for Bangalore Planting non-native ornamental trees does little for local biodiversity. At Sampige Foundation, we select native Karnataka tree species such as: 1. Honge (Millettia pinnata): Excellent for nitrogen fixation and shade. 2. Neem (Azadirachta indica): Natural air purifier and pest repellent. 3. Aala / Banyan (Ficus benghalensis): Supports birds, insects, and urban wildlife. 4. Sampige (Magnolia champaca): Fragrant flowers and traditional heritage value. Native species require less water once established and thrive in Bangalore's local climate. Beyond Planting: Our 3-Year Care Protocol The biggest failure of typical plantation drives is the lack of post-plantation care. Sampige Foundation ensures a 85%+ survival rate by combining corporate volunteer planting with a dedicated 3-year post-plantation maintenance protocol: 1. Site Selection & Pit Preparation: Deep pit digging and soil enrichment prior to employee arrival. 2. Employee Plantation Day: Volunteers plant saplings, install bamboo guards, and water them. 3. Regular Monitoring & De-weeding: Our field team waters, de-weeds, and inspects saplings monthly for 36 months. Engage Your Corporate Team A sapling drive offers your workforce a rewarding day outdoors while directly contributing to Bangalore's carbon sequestration goals. 👉 Learn more about our Native Sapling Plantation CSR Format or connect with Sampige Foundation to schedule your plantation drive.
