Greens & BrownsFrom Temple Flowers to Compost
Discover the journey of temple flowers and leaves — from collection to compost — and how we are working to divert organic waste from landfills.

Where Do Temple Flowers Go After the Pooja?
Large quantities of flowers and leaves are generated every day from temples, homes, religious ceremonies and cultural events. When these materials are mixed with general waste, they can end up being transported along with other waste to landfills. But flowers and leaves are organic materials. They can be collected separately, processed and returned to the soil as compost.
From Waste to Resource
The project is not simply about making compost. The larger goal is waste diversion.
The 6-Step Composting Process
How devotional offerings are converted into soil nutrients in approximately 90 Days.
Collection
Used flowers and leaves are collected separately from participating temples and collection points.

Segregation
Collected material is inspected and non-compostable materials such as plastic, packaging, threads and other unwanted items are removed.
